One Punch Man’s Funniest Scenes That Never Get Old

Saitama’s hero journey is filled with both punches and punchlines.

The manga adaptation of One-Punch Man is widely recognized for its impressive artwork and intense action sequences, but its humor is just as much a defining feature. The story follows Saitama, a man with overwhelming strength who works as a hero purely for amusement.

Throughout the series, he finds himself caught up in absurd situations, whether it’s dealing with superpowered antics or something as mundane as bargain hunting. Alongside him is an eccentric group of heroes, whose conflicts and interactions often provide some of the funniest moments in the series.

The comedy in One-Punch Man stems from a mix of different elements, such as sudden move in art style, unexpected punchlines, and moments played completely straight for comedic effect. The anime enhances this further with sound, music, and even a few original gags added into the mix.

The following moments stand out as some of the most hilarious across both the anime and manga, though those who have only watched the anime might encounter a few minor spoilers. Moves in art style, unexpected punchlines, and moments played completely straight for comedic effect.

10. Speed-Of-Sound Sonic Gets a Painful Lesson

During an early encounter, Saitama crosses paths with Speed-Of-Sound Sonic, a self-proclaimed ninja who quickly becomes an annoyance. Sonic attempts to impress with his rapid movements, darting around in an effort to confuse his opponent.

However, Saitama effortlessly keeps up with his speed. When Sonic finally attacks with a kick, Saitama counters with a simple punch—unfortunately for Sonic, it lands squarely between his legs. The anime takes this moment even further by immediately cutting to a “technical difficulties” screen, making the scene even funnier.

9. A Sneeze With Devastating Power

During a battle against Garou, which has yet to be animated, the fight escalates all the way to outer space, specifically to Jupiter’s moon, Io. As the two exchange blows, Saitama casually sneezes—and in doing so, obliterates a massive chunk of Jupiter.

The sheer distance between him and the planet makes the moment both ridiculous and awe-inspiring. This move, labeled his “Serious Sneeze,” is part of his “Serious Series” of attacks, which barely require any effort but produce catastrophic results.

8. Crushing the Wrong Target

Saitama’s first major fight pits him against “Beefcake,” an enormous, Attack on Titan-like giant controlled by his scientist brother. As Saitama perches on Beefcake’s shoulder, the scientist orders his brother to squash “the man on his shoulder.”

Without thinking, Beefcake slaps his own shoulder, only to realize too late that he just crushed his sibling instead. His exaggerated reaction makes the scene even more absurd, particularly in the anime. This prompts Saitama to get serious and swiftly take down the giant, who only then realizes that raw strength doesn’t guarantee fulfillment.

7. An All-Too-Familiar Pattern

Upon the arrival of the Dark Matter Thieves, Saitama finally encounters an opponent who provides some level of resistance—their leader, Boros. For once, he gets a fight that requires a bit more effort, even using his “Serious Series” techniques to claim victory.

However, when the next enemy appears, Saitama assumes he’ll have another exciting battle and immediately goes all-out. To his disappointment, the opponent is obliterated in an instant, with pieces of its body scattering in all directions.

His frustration perfectly mirrors the way the series began, reinforcing the recurring theme of him effortlessly defeating every foe.

6. A Lesson About Headphones

After moving into the Hero Association headquarters, Saitama meets his new neighbors—high-ranking heroes who expect deference from lower-ranked members. He, of course, has no interest in their superiority complex.

One of them, Forte, challenges him to a fight outside. Just as the duel is about to begin, Saitama notices a car heading straight for Forte and tries to warn him. Because Forte is wearing headphones, he doesn’t hear the warning and gets hit by the Blizzard Bunch’s vehicle.

Later, while recovering in the hospital, he mistakenly believes Saitama used some kind of psychic power on him. His friends eventually urge him to ditch the headphones for good.

5. Grocery Shopping Priorities

During the House of Evolution arc, Saitama faces off against Carnage Kabuto, a monstrous creation designed to be the ultimate warrior. However, mid-battle, he suddenly realizes what day it is—and that he’s about to miss a grocery store sale.

This realization causes him to shout in frustration while simultaneously obliterating his opponent, all with an uncharacteristically intense expression. Genos and Saitama then rush off, completely ignoring the result of their fight, leaving the House of Evolution’s creator utterly confused by their priorities.

4. Tatsumaki’s Image Problem

During the Neo Heroes arc, the Hero Association decides to boost its public image by creating an advertisement featuring Tatsumaki. However, Tatsumaki takes things too far, using her powers to summon real tornadoes and terrifying the film crew.

Rather than air the chaotic footage, the Hero Association replaces it with AI-generated images of Tatsumaki as an adorable magical girl. When she sees the final product, she loses her temper, while her sister, Fubuki, casually praises her for the “adorable” commercial.

The Hero Association executives are lucky to escape unscathed after altering her public persona so drastically.

3. A Mole’s Worst Nightmare

During the House of Evolution arc, cybernetically modified animals attack Saitama’s home. As he effortlessly defeats their strongest member, a mole panics and frantically burrows underground to escape. Unfortunately for the mole, it resurfaces right in front of Saitama, who cheerfully says, “Found you!”

The sheer horror on the mole’s face, combined with Saitama’s casual tone, makes for one of the funniest visual gags in the series. The anime adds to the humor with a lighthearted, almost sing-song delivery of the line.

2. An Unfortunate Misunderstanding

When the S-Class heroes are summoned to the Hero Association’s headquarters due to the Dark Matter Thieves’ arrival, Saitama attends alongside Genos and Bang. Upon seeing him, Tatsumaki immediately questions why someone of his low rank is even present and criticizes him for showing up.

Without missing a beat, Saitama looks at her blankly and asks, “Why is this lost child so rude?” Mistaking Tatsumaki’s small stature for that of a child, he inadvertently insults one of the most powerful heroes in the association.

The anime plays up the moment by using Tatsumaki’s webcomic appearance, making her look even younger and amplifying the comedic effect.

1. A Misinterpreted Mastery

During the Neo Heroes arc, Atomic Samurai decides to test King’s strength. He recalls a technique his master once demonstrated, where an apple is sliced so cleanly that it doesn’t realize it has been cut. He challenges King to replicate this feat.

King kneels, holds the blade for a moment, then quietly sets it down and walks away. Atomic Samurai, misinterpreting King’s hesitation as an advanced skill, is left in complete shock. Despite doing absolutely nothing, King once again manages to convince others of his supposed incredible strength.

The humor in One-Punch Man continues to be one of its strongest aspects, with plenty of hilarious moments scattered throughout the series. As fans await the release of Season 3, they can look forward to more of these brilliantly crafted comedic scenes finally making their way to the screen.

Many of the funniest moments from the manga have yet to be animated, promising plenty of laughs ahead.
